The Scottish Maritime Academy, based in Peterhead, is the first training provider in Scotland to be able to offer Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) training to the maritime industry. The Academy recently received full accreditation from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for VTS Training and has approval to offer the VTS 103/5 Refresher Training - the first 3 day course is scheduled to run in February 2018.
Linda Hope, Centre Manager explains, “Over the last 18 months we have been on a journey working towards this accreditation with the support of Peterhead Port Authority. As part of the accreditation process the Academy has worked closely with VTS staff in the Port Authority developing and fine-tuning training materials.
“At just £1300 per delegate the Academy is able to offer the refresher training to ports on a flexible basis, on dates additional to those detailed in MIN 554 (M). I look forward to speaking with VTS teams to see how we are able to assist them with their training needs.”
Peterhead Harbour Master, Captain John Forman says, “Peterhead Port Authority is delighted that the Maritime Academy now has the accreditation to deliver VTS training and hopefully this will be of benefit to all VTS ports in the country.”
